Residential Scale Solar
North Carolina is one of the leading solar energy producers in the nation. With an increase in popularity and a decrease in cost, our members are gaining more interest in how to harness the power of the sun. Central Electric is responding to this shift in member interest by working to incorporate renewable energy into our generation portfolio while continuing to provide reliable electricity at the lowest possible cost.
While solar generation is a great way to make the most of our resources, it only works when the sun is shining. To ensure uninterrupted power flow, we must maintain the infrastructure to meet our members' energy needs. Central Electric's power grid balances all the generation sources to maintain the reliability you depend on.
If you are interested in residential scale solar, you’ll need to select one of the following rate schedules:
Large Scale Renewable Energy
If you own a qualifying generation such as wind, solar or hydroelectric that is interconnected directly to the electric grid, you may be eligible to sell Central Electric electricity at our standard and negotiated rates.

Central Electric has joined with other utilities across N.C. to offer a renewable energy alternative called NC GreenPower. The program operates upon voluntary participation by members who elect to contribute at least $4 a month on their utility bill to help support a cleaner environment through electricity produced from renewable resources. None of the utilities participating in the NC GreenPower program keep these funds; all contributions are forwarded by the utilities directly to NC GreenPower for the purchase of renewable energy for the North Carolina electric grid. Contributions are tax-free and qualify as a tax-deductible contribution for income tax purposes.
